Program Manager - Power Systems
The successful candidate will lead a team of extremely talented
engineers and grow the Power Management organization from a < $1M per
year activity into a $100M per year enterprise. (This PM needs a balance
of technical, program management, and business development talent. The
engineering staff will handle the technical details, so this person just
needs enough technical knowledge to lead the team, understand the
technical aspects, and be able to successfully communicate the value to
management and the customer).
This individual will employ product development and
business management skills to break into new markets with disruptive
technology, and establish the company as a major player in the power
management arena. (This includes both products, (e.g.: smart grids, next
generation power electronics, etc) and services (e.g.: optimization of
customer's needs/resources, design services, setup/maintenance of power
systems, etc).
The candidate will address both long-term and
immediate-term business opportunities in a structured manner to provide
sustained growth. The successful candidate will supervise preparation of
presentations, white papers, ROMs and proposals.
The "perfect" person will probably hold an advanced
degree from a recognized university, as well as a Secret Security
Clearance, have successfully developed and defended technically oriented
power management, or related, programs in all program phases; including
conceptual, IRAD, design, development, engineering, production and
fielding. This person will have worked with military power and then
moved on to commercial power applications, where ideally will have
gained experience in hands-on power grid experience in power plants,
knows how to switch grids live and has the big picture view of power
management. This is not a behind the desk person, it is someone who can
rapidly ramp up and be effective, someone who probably has experience in
vehicle, small remote installation, or similar power management systems
design, for both commercial and military customers. And this person
knows how to sell the internal IRAD programs, can speak effectively to
internal senior management and hopefully has a rolodex of external
customers at very high levels, such as at DARPA and other research labs,
as well as in commercial arenas. Will probably know some software, but
must be hardware knowledgeable.
This position entails managing a growing business in
which the company designs, builds and operates power micro-grids. To
execute the management responsibilities, one must be able to understand
the background technology so that he/she can do a credible review of
each business opportunity and understand what the engineers are saying
during program reviews. The candidate should have: "bachelors degree in
an engineering/technical discipline from an accredited college in a
related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 20
years or more of professional experience; or 18 years in a related
Masters, or 15 years with a related PhD degree. Viewed as the most senor
authority in discipline".
